  • Walkman: The Walkman player is a portable stereo audio released by the Japanese company Sony in 1979. The first model was the TPS-L2. This model and its subsequent revisions, Sony sold millions of units, but when it appeared, few could afford one because of its high price. The Walkman sound quality obtained as a result, similar to that of a home team, without being so bulky. The wide dissemination of the Walkman also radically changed the business of the turntable and gave the first blow to vinyl and the cassette was easier and cheaper to reproduce. The Walkman is a symbol of the 80s.
The names "Walkman", "Pressman", "Watchman", "Scoopman", "Discman", and "Talkman" are trademarks of Sony, and have been applied to a wide range of portable entertainment devices manufactured by the company. Sony continues to use the "Walkman" brand name for most of their portable audio devices, after the "Discman" name for CD players was dropped in the late 1990s. According to Sony, the plural form is "Walkman Personal Stereos", rather than "Walkmans" or “Walkmen”.

  • Minidisc:The MiniDisc, or MD minidisk is a magneto-optical disk digital 90 developed in the original Japanese multinational Sony, smaller than conventional CDs and greater capacity in comparison.
It is a small optical disk (7 cm x 6.75 cm x 0.5 cm) and rewritable, magneto-optical storage initially designed to contain up to 80 minutes of digitized audio.
Minidisc technology was announced by Sony in 1991, was introduced into the market on January 12, 1992, and is able to store all types of binary data. The format used for music compression is based on ATRAC/ATRAC3, use DRM, different bitrates, and a direct sampling from an analogy or digital signal. In Japan were the substitutes for the cassette tapes, but it was not in the rest of the world despite the efforts of Sony, because their price was high. They became popular in the UK for three years (1998-2001) when trading a limited selection of albums on MiniDisc, as well as on CD and cassette, but the distribution of music over the Internet and the rise of the MP3 format have not favoured decreasing costs. Currently used primarily for recording.
MiniDisc discs are smaller than CDs, have a diameter of 64mm, but its data transfer speed is less than 292 Kbps, compared to 1.4 Mbps which requires the CD. It delivers a resolution of 16 bits, using standard sampling frequency of 44.1 KHz.
  • MP3 player: A digital audio player is a device that stores, organizes and plays digital audio files. Commonly referred to as MP3 player, MP3 player, or just MP3 (due to the ubiquity of the format . mp3), but digital audio players often play other file formats. Some formats are proprietary, such as Windows Media Audio (WMA) and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) and, to a degree, MP3. Some of these formats also may incorporate restrictive DRM technology, such as WMA DRM, which are often part of certain paid download sites. Other formats are completely patent-free or otherwise open, such as Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, and Speex (all part of the Ogg multimedia project open).
A digital audio player, or DAP, usually referred to as an MP3 player, is a consumer electronic device that has the primary function of storing, organizing and playing audio files. Some DAPs are also referred to as portable media players as they have image-viewing and/or video-playing support.
